All very nice, old fashioned charm

We had booked a lunch for ten guests and we very well looked after - service was attentive but unobtrusive, friendly and polite staff, we were offered exclusive use of the lounge for drinks beforehand and felt unhurried throughout. Everyone enjoyed the meal, which was a 'specials' three course, although the vegetarians were invitied to choose from the a la carte if they wished, at no extra cost. Overall the meal represented very good value at £15.00 per head plus drinks and the brasserie was a very pleasant area.

Although the meal was good value once we'd sorted out the bill properly, unfortunately the hotel initially presented a vastly inflated bill which was about double what it should have been - and had not been itemised. It had been rolled in with our room charge (at our request) but I then had to ask for it to be properly itemised after I'd spotted the obvious mistake. The reception staff did sort it out promptly but I couldn't figure out how they had managed to charge us for ten extra meals on the first attempt! Fortunately I am numerate

This was a charming oldy-worldy Inn with all modern comforts. The staff were very friendly and there was a lovely atmosphere throughout.

Having to pay extra for breakfast.

Excellent food and drink. Staff who went beyond call of duty. Charming historic building.

Room rather small (cozy perhaps). Parking slightly awkward but fine if you print the map off. A typical quirk of small English towns.

    Decor

There was a wedding at the time of our stay we were above the wedding reception which was very loud . I would like to have been informed about the wedding we would have stayed elsewhere also the room rate was expensive without breakfast £135.00 and there is no parking other than public car park if you arrive before 6pm . We also wanted dinner, after a fuss they booked a table for 9.30pm when we walked into the dinning room there were just a few people who had finished their meals and were ready to leave, this would have left us a the on people in the restaurant so we left and ate elsewhere.

My difficulty was that because this is a very old hotel there was no lift; I was on the second floor and found the stairs on a very hot day difficult. Also I would have been grateful if the breakfast could have been included in the price. I hadn't taken this on board while booking.

My room was very comfortable, clean and quiet and the staff were excellent. The food is first class. I travelled alone but felt completely at ease. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

no parking at the hotel but they will drive your car to a near by car park for you.

Staff, decour, bar, restaraunt, facilities and all the extra touches were fantastic

Really disappointed by the cleanliness of my room, it fell short of what would be expected of any hotel.

overpriced bad and confused décor ignoring or trying to eradicate. grade two listing rooms too small. hotel bad layout. Our room was cramped nowhere to put anything down including the shower room had to leave things on the floor one bedside table ..toilet roll holder and sink tap loose and rotate when used.Have pictures

Right in the centre of town. Good Design, comfortable beds & bathrooms. Very good residents' lounges. Restaurant potentially good but service very slow.

Slow service in restaurant (unlike previous visits). Rooms vary in size and need a bit of simple maintenance, e.g. Oil on hinges and tighten screws on window locks.

I enjoyed everything about my stay at The White Horse specilically the ambience, the quality of service, the restaurant facilities and dinner menu, the central location of the hotel, the friendly nature of the staff, the various lounges with deep sumptuos leather chairs, the modern bathroom and airy room.
